Lillian Higgins, a long-time employee of Centris Federal Credit Union, passed on Saturday, Dec. 22. She was 85 years old and had worked for Centris since 1960 when it was known as N.P.D. Telco Federal Credit Union. While Lillian retired in 2005 after 45 years of service, she continued as a part-time, on-call employee until her passing.
Employees who knew and worked with Lillian have fond memories of their time with her. In 2012, Lillian was the member spotlight feature in Centris’ InTouch newsletter. When Lillian took the treasurer/manager job in 1960, she operated the credit union out of her basement office with a single desk, two-drawer filing cabinet, typewriter and 10-key adding machine. The article said, “When she had more than one member in her home she would use her kitchen as a waiting area until she was ready to call members downstairs. The set up provide for some memorable occasions, such as one in which Lillian recalls a member tasting the soup she had cooking on the stove and adding more salt to it while he waited.”
Through the years, Lillian saw a few more moves as Centris grew its membership and the space requirements became larger to serve more people. In June 2012, Lillian was ready with a shovel and hard hat to assist with the ground breaking of our current North Platte location at 902 South Jeffers.
For more than half a century, Lillian was a part of the Centris family. We want to honor and thank her family for the time and dedication she gave to Centris Federal Credit Union, its members and the credit union industry. We are forever grateful for her service and she will not be forgotten.
A celebration of life event is being planned by the family and will be at a later date.
